BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY

Nearly 1 in 5 children in the U.S. are poor, and many more come from low-income families. We are empowering them to realize their full potential and break the cycle of poverty.

GET INVOLVED

The Challenge We Are Facing

Poverty touches communities all across the globe.  Of the 72.4 million children under the age of 18 in the United States alone, 41% are low-income children and approximately one in five children are poor.  Poverty has a profound impact on children, especially when they are young.  The effects of poverty come from all sides - these include a decrease in physical and mental health; social, emotional, and behavioral issues; and reduced language skills and academic achievement.  Adolescents in poverty become particularly vulnerable to behaviors such as substance abuse, violence, and risk-taking.

Our Theory of Change

SportsWorks uses a three-step process to address the negative impact poverty poses on children:

1   Sharing the gospel, the love of God, and offering Bible studies

2  Providing sports programs that promote exercise and healthy eating

3  Providing educational support, such as tutoring and mentoring

Our Programs

SportsWorks provides affordable programs designed to keep kids active, healthy, self-confident, and on the road to academic success.

ATHLETICS

We partner with established organizations such as the USTA, the Jr. NBA, and NFL Play 60 Flag Football to provide tennis, basketball, flag football, and soccer programs, as well as sports equipment and facilities.  Our programs are fun, safe, and engaging, keeping kids active and healthy.

NUTRITION

Through our programs, we give children access to healthy refreshments and teach them the importance of a balanced diet.  We are also licensed by the Cooper Institute to measure children's levels of fitness and help them maintain good overall health.

PRINCIPLES AND VALUES

We believe in the veracity and truth contained in the Bible and teach biblical principles, values, and morals to the children who attend our programs.  Children learn life lessons such as contentment, patience, and financial responsibility.

EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT

We work with First Book, local universities, and established volunteer outlets to provide books and educational resources, such as tutors and mentors, so children have the best chance to achieve academically.

INTERNATIONAL MINISTRY

We provide sporting good equipment to children in impoverished communities all over the world.  Our global footprint currently reaches Africa and South Asia, and we are actively expanding to other locations.
